Tsiknopempti is a Greek pre-lent celebration where you feast on barbecue meat! Literally meaning Smelly Thursday, or even Charred, Smoky, or Barbeque Thursday because of the smell of the grilled meat in the air. This is part of the traditional celebrations for Carnival season in Greece and Cyprus.

The Nostimo Herb Garden

Out the front of our restaurant, all around the Nostimo sign is a herb garden. Mixed in with other greenery so you may not notice unless you’re looking there is an abundance of herbs.

We’re home to Greek basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, cherry tomatoes, creeping thyme and creeping rosemary. And they’re most definitely not here just for decoration. Our chefs use these herbs in various dishes. They have recently been using a lot of our Greek basil as it’s been growing out of control. Greek basil is a great herb that will survive when it’s a little cooler but thrives in the warm weather that Queensland provides.

Meet Our Chef In Residence

Delicious news! Nostimo Restaurant Bar is delighted to introduce to you our chef in residence, the renowned David Tsirekas.

David joins Nostimo Restaurant Bar with a wealth of culinary expertise, in particular his role as group executive chef for Universal Hotels which has its famous flagship Greek restaurant, 1821, in Sydney. David was awarded his first Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide hat in 2001 for his work at Perama restaurant. Since then, David has received numerous hats and accolades celebrating his mouth-watering cuisine.

Meet Nostimo’s Restaurant Manager Kostas

Kostas Manekas has recently joined The Greek Club team as Nostimo Restaurant Bar manager. Born and trained in Greece we asked Kostas to give us a bit of an insight on his life growing up and how his past has led him to The Greek Club’s Nostimo. 

“Leaving Greece almost 8 1/2 years ago to settle in Brisbane, I am now married and have 2 year old son. I have been involved in the hospitality industry for almost 20 years, starting at the age of 12 in my parents’ Taverna back in Greece.
